SOP Seminar: Thalassemia.

The School of Pharmacy at Beirut campus organized a seminar on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 entitled “Thalassemia”.


The aim of the seminar was to raise awareness on Thalassemia during the World Thalassemia Day. The seminar was delivered by Doctors from the Chronic Care Center.


Dr. Abi Saad (Administrative director of the Chronic Care Center) gave a brief introduction about the chronic care center and how they are helping thalassemia patients to live normal life.

Then Dr. Therese Abou Nasr (Hematology/ Oncology Specialist) gave a full lecture about thalassemia and its management. “Donate Blood to Donate Life” Dr. Abi Nasr said. She mentioned that the main stay of management in thalassemia patients is blood transfusion where most patients should receive at least 1 to 2 units of blood every other week. She continued to highlight on the complications of blood transfusion and the importance of chelating therapy to reduce it.

The seminar was concluded by giving a trophy of gratitude from the SOP to the speakers.
