Brief History

The Lebanese International University (LIU) was established in April, 2001, under Presidential Decree No. 5294 as "The Bekaa University", with its campus in Bekaa, Al-Khyara, Al Bekaa Al Gharbi, and has since graduated its first Freshman class in June 2002. With a vision of becoming a true national university with international presence, a new campus in Beirut was opened and the name was changed to: "Lebanese International University (LIU)".

Mission

The mission of the Lebanese International University is to provide the highest possible quality of higher education, training and research, in order to meet the needs of individuals and the communities and enterprises both in Lebanon and in the whole Arab world.
Besides, the mission of the LIU is to contribute to the development of highly educated and qualified graduates who will enhance the educational, economic and cultural foundation of the nation.
Its teaching, research and service mission is characterized by equal access and equal opportunity to all who are committed to the success and contributing to the progression of their country and the advancement of culture and knowledge in general.
The Lebanese International University, as an institution for higher learning, is a career-oriented institution. While recognizing that it's primary role is to serve the student, LIU, through educational functions and its broad range of modern and skills-oriented undergraduate and graduate programs, qualifies its students to assume leadership roles where they will serve their country.
In its effort to offer a superior university education for its students, LIU retains a highly qualified faculty. It aims to provide faculty members who are not only academically competent in their professional fields but are also life-long learners with a breadth of vision, a sense of civic and moral responsibility, and a devotion to the fundamental values of human life.
The University espouses and encourages freedom of thought and expression. It expects, however, that such freedom will be enjoyed in a spirit of integrity and with a full sense of responsibility.

Liability & Responsibility

The University assumes no liability for any delay in providing or failing to provide educational or related services or facilities due to causes beyond the reasonable control of the University. Causes include, but are not limited to, power failure, fire, strikes by University employees or others, weather damage, and acts of public authorities.
When it is appropriate to do so, the University will exert reasonable efforts to provide comparable or substantially equivalent services, facilities, or performance. However, its inability or failure to do so shall not subject it to liability.
No faculty member, administrator, or other representative of the University shall make any representations to, or enter into any agreements with, or act toward any student or other person in any manner that is not in conformity with established University policies, practices, and procedures as expressed in this or any other official University documents.

Facts About LIU

LIU bases educational perspective, methods and academic organization on the American model of higher education. The University operates on a semester system, and on credit hours curriculum as implemented by most universities in the USA.
