The Pharmacy profession has passed through many changes throughout history; from the traditional use of plants and other spiritual remedies to the highly advanced application of biotechnology and gene therapy. This great development in drug investigation and pharmaceutical exploration set new challenges for pharmacists to deal with and to make use of.
Over the past few years we worked very hard to establish a program which enables our graduates to become a new asset in the healthcare system. The school is staffed with motivated and dedicated instructors who employ their knowledge and experience to facilitate the learning process and to stimulate students' interest and attention toward the program. Classrooms and laboratories are equipped with new and advanced equipments which support and serve the learning procedure.
And with the fact that our students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and are highly motivated to pioneer and to serve their societies, this made our school acknowledged by public and private institutions and our graduates are highly recognized by national and international pharmaceutical companies. It is worth to mention as well that our graduates' performance in the national colloquium exam was outstanding with 100% passing rate and with highest scores attained.
Mohamad Rahal, PhD,
Dean of Pharmacy
The School of Pharmacy, at LIU, is well established and accredited. It accepts students in both Bekaa and Beirut Campuses. The aim of the school is to prepare pharmacists with a high standard knowledge and practical experience in pharmacy practice. Pharmacy students will practice to keep up the knowledge with challenges and inventions encountered in the pharmacy profession, and practical experience that motivates pharmacists to communicate, discuss, and evaluate drug application in disease management with other healthcare professionals.
The first and second years broaden the students’ knowledge in basic biological, physical and chemical sciences and general education. The third, fourth and fifth years provide students with pharmaceutical education. Students learn about normal and abnormal physiological systems and drug interactions. Students will have the opportunities to practice drug dispensing and patients’ counseling in community and hospital pharmacies as well as in the university pharmacy dispensing lab. Through their clinical clerkships, they will obtain skills which enable them to communicate and discuss, with other healthcare professionals, the selection of the most appropriate medicine for every patient. In the sixth year, students gain more experience in clinical drug application at different divisions of healthcare units at well established, high standard hospitals’ wards.
